This is a blog about swimming. It began when I was preparing to do a ten mile swim in Lake Minnetonka, MN (USA). I swam the ten miles on July 26, 2014, and it was terrific: you can see reports about it here and here.
As of now (January 2018), I have completed two more ten mile swims, Swim the Suck 2015 and Swim the Suck 2016, a 9.2 mile swim (USMS Ultramarathon Champs 2017), and a lot of other swims.
My next big adventure will be SCAR Swim, scheduled for April 2018: four days, four lakes, 40 miles.
This blog includes information about my training, my races, the places I swim, and the people who help me do it, plus occasional deep thoughts.
I swim because I love to swim: in a pool, in a lake, in the ocean, doesn’t matter. Give me anything bigger than a bathtub, and I want to swim it. If you love to swim — or if you hate to swim and want to know how someone could possibly love it — this blog might be for you.

I have enjoyed reading your blog this season. Lake Minnetonka will be my first ten mile swim. Good luck, and see you there!

Good stuff! Thanks for writing. I’m also doing “Swim the Suck” in 2015, my first swim at this distance. Living in the Southeast, I’m also making notes as I read your blog, “That event sounds cool, maybe I should try that ..”.

Wonderful! I look forward to seeing you in October.

Love reading your blog. I’m going to be practising my flip turns – not because I need to, but because I want to be able to do them properly – and trying ice-cream with hot fudge sauce!

Hooray! I hope the flip turns go well. Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Day is coming soon — it’s the 1st Saturday in February. I’m thinking about ice cream and then swimming that morning. Thanks for reading the blog!
